Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Inverted Triangle

Braulio Estima was finishing guys 2 years ago with his triangle.  His triangle was a different set up than most though.  A couple months ago I was watching some ADCC footage and watched a couple of his matches.  About 2 weeks after that I was rolling with a wrestler and found myself in a position that I frequently get to and that inverted triangle of Braulio's was fresh in my head, or at least sort of.  I went for it and found myself being able to lock the position but was not in control of the far arm.  I had control over my opponent and the near arm.  So I reached for his near leg, pulled it to me, bending his body in an arc and pushed my hips forward and he tapped immediately.

This position has proved beneficial in my game and is now a submission that I would use in my arsenal anytime.  Take a look first at Braulio explaining his triangle and then my version.  Feel free to hit me up if you have any questions.

Half Guard Sweep with Back Attack

This is a great technique demonstrated by our good friend Travis at Carlson Gracie Indianapolis Jiu Jitsu.  He came up on the 11th for a 2 hour workshop and then hung out for a couple days of training and fun.  Travis is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and currently trains in Columbus, Ohio.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art focusing largely on grappling and groundfighting.  It utilizes natural body leverage and proper technique to obtain dominant control on the ground and, as a result, provides greater position for striking or submission holds.
BJJ has been proven, when used properly, to be an effective method for dealing with bigger and stronger opponents and has become increasingly popular due in part to its great success in MMA.  It can be trained for self defense, sport grappling (gi and no gi) and mixed martial arts competition and has found its way into the training regiment of nearly every sucessful martial artist worldwide.

Translated as "the gentle art", Brazilian jiu-jitsu focuses on using strength and technique in the most efficient way possible to control and overcome opponents of greater size, strength and aggression.

We at Carlson Gracie Indianapolis teach a fundamental and functional style of jiu jitsu that is proven effective and that works for everyone.  We understand that not everyone can fit into the same mold since we all vary in body type, flexibility, personality, etc.  We aim to help you find the moves and details that best suites you to help you to best reach your potential.  If you are looking to get in shape and learn self-defense or wanting to compete you will find what you are looking for.  All classes are taught by Carlson Gracie Black Belt Alan Stockman, so you are guaranteed to always get the best instruction around.  Contact us today and find out how you can train the best Jiu Jitsu in Indianapolis and become a member of the renowned Carlson Gracie Team!

Travis Haynes BJJ Workshop 10/08/2011

BJJ Black Belt Travis Haynes will be coming over on October 8th, 2011, to Carlson Gracie Indianapolis Jiu Jitsu to teach a BJJ Workshop. He will be covering some of the forgotten fundamentals, the simple pieces of BJJ that make things work. Not the upside down, sideways, spin on your head 3x, flying omoplatas, but good solid fundamentals! This is a must for all belt levels.

Travis began training Japanese JuJutsu in 1993 and then switched over to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 1994. He received his Black Belt in 2009 under the BJJ Revolution Team and still continues to train and learn everyday. I have known Travis for 12 years (since we were both Blue Belts) and he has impressed me every since I met him for his ability to recall techniques in extreme detail. He has an extraordinary understanding of the game and is also open to showing anything and everything. Travis has trained with a long list of highly recognized Black Belts in the sport and lived a short time in Rio de Janeiro furthering his BJJ knowledge.

So take advantage of this opportunity and stop on out. The workshop is open to anyone and everyone. Any school, and discipline, come on in to train and have a good time.

We also encourage everyone to bring a notebook to record the positions. We will be covering a lot of material!  Contact Carlson Gracie Indianapolis Jiu Jitsu for more information.
